Show Me the Funding

A letter from YTH’s Executive Director, Bhupendra Sheoran, on the current state of funding for youth health and communicating with funders at YTH Live 2017 to build a strategic response.

Dear YTH community,

We are going through an unprecedented time of change in youth-centered innovation. While the number of funders supporting trailblazing approaches has increased along with the opportunities, there are many new challenges. The broader nonprofit sector is experiencing uncertainty and funding cuts; effectively reducing our ability to ensure that communities continue to get the critical services and resources they need to thrive. Funders and philanthropists are responding to this situation by shifting strategies, priorities and developing rapid responses to address gaps.

At YTH Live 2017, we are responding to this immediate need with the following sessions:

The State of Funding: Closing Plenary Panel, Tuesday, May 9, 2017:

We have invited foundations and funders, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Twilio.org, WestWind, Vodafone Americas and Children’s Investment Fund Foundation to share with you their responses to new needs and priorities, stimulating innovations, engaging youth, and addressing gaps to ensure that our most vulnerable communities aren’t left behind.

Non-traditional Funding: Interactive Talk Monday, May 8, 2017:

Venture Capitalist, Social Enterprise, ROI; What are these and why you should be learning more about them? As we face funding cuts and an uncertain future, we will explore non-traditional funding opportunities at our breakout session on Monday, May 8 at 2PM. Engage and learn from experts and philanthropists who support the newest initiatives and social enterprises. Learn how you too, could benefit from their support. Attend to share your priorities and challenges with them and help influence their strategies.

Join us at YTH Live 2017 to gain insider knowledge about how funders are approaching youth-centered initiatives. Enjoy a rare chance to go beyond traditional funding relationships and contribute to the discussion by engaging with key donors in the field to set the agenda for the future of youth-centered philanthropy.

We look forward to seeing you there.

In solidarity,

Bhupendra Sheoran
Executive Director, YTH
